The PSA Group has set up a new platform entirely dedicated to the car user experience. The team is based at the Group’s Automotive Design Network
MAKE WAY FOR THE UXCT APPROACH
The Human-Machine Interface (HMI) industry is changing fast and drivers have high expectations in terms of the on-board experience (delegation of tasks to the vehicle, ease of taking back control, new possibilities for on-board driver activities, etc.). The challenge for the UXCT (User eXperience Cockpit Team) is to bring together the user experience (UX) and HMI concepts in a single workspace where new experiences can be created.
“HMIs have become a key part of vehicle appeal, just like ADASs (advanced driver assistance systems) and interior and exterior design”, said Saran Diakité Kaba, Head of User eXperience (UX) and Human-Machine Interface R&D.
A SINGLE PLATFORM, MANY AREAS OF EXPERTISE
The UXCT platform is a cross-disciplinary unit that brings together more than 230 people from diverse backgrounds, including music, the humanities, video games, etc. Designers, developers, ergonomists and more are working together to imagine the cockpits of the future. The ultimate goal is to provide drivers and their passengers with a personalised, multi-sensory experience.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE EQUIPMENT FOR THE COCKPITS OF THE FUTURE
To optimise the creative process and test the cockpits of the future, the platform has various tools at its disposal:
- Reconfigurable running prototypes that enhance efficiency
- Simulation and architecture software programmes that cover all on-board situations and create interactive, user-friendly interfaces
- Scientific studies conducted by researchers from UX Lab (PSA Group and external partners) on user satisfaction and life on board tomorrow’s connected cars
TO BE CONTINUED…
The new Peugeot 3008 and Citroën C3 have already reaped the benefits of this new way of working, which is unprecedented in the automotive world. All future models will leverage the research conducted by the UXCT to optimise the driving experience.
